Budget Session: Lok Sabha adjourned to meet again on 3 April

Amid sloganeering by the Opposition leaders in Parliament, Lok Sabha has been adjourned for the day to meet again on 3 April at 11 am in the ongoing budget session.

The Opposition MPs were demanding JPC probe into the Adani-Hindunberg issue inside the House. Earlier, Lok Sabha was to meet again at noon. The Lower House was again adjourned after nearly half an hour.

The Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2022, was passed before the adjournment of the Lok Sabha. The House experienced disturbances with Opposition leaders raising the Adani issue again.

NCP leader Mohammad Faizal’s membership as a Lok Sabha MP has been restored by the Lok Sabha secretariat. He was disqualified as a member of the Lower House in January following his conviction in a criminal case with a 10-year prison term. Faizal, who represents Lakshadweep, had knocked on the door of the Kerala High Court against the session court order regarding his disqualification, conviction, and sentence.

Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha membership and the consistent demand by the Opposition parties for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani stock issue dominated this week’s proceedings of both Houses of Parliament.

Sloganeering, protests, and frequent adjournments have taken place most of the time in the ongoing budget session. Budget-related bills have been cleared in both Houses without any discussion, due to the vocal protest by the Opposition leaders.
