Rahul Gandhi disqualified only to suppress his voice: Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the government over the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as a Lok Sabha MP on Sunday. He said that the Wayanad MP was disqualified for choking his voice.

Speaking to a prominent news agency, he said that “the Congress party is standing with him, and if needed, we are ready to go to jail as part of the Jail Bharo programme.” The BJP government has not been allowing Rahul Gandhi to speak. “Whatever we say in the Parliament even that is expunged from the records in Parliament” he added.

There is only one aim behind the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi: the government does not want to let him speak, because the BJP government wants to hide its scams and suppress the facts.

Rahul’s remark was not against any party or candidate; it was his election speech, and Rahul’s intention was not to hurt anyone, Kharge said.

His speech in 2019 was just his freedom of expression. “BJP leaders have given such a statement that if a dog dies in an accident, then there is no need to worry about it.” A party whose leader talks like this can never give respect to the Constitution. Currently, a conspiracy is going on to not allow the Opposition to speak freely. “Rahul Gandhi has been fighting against this conspiracy,” he said.

Congress has been observing a day-long Sayagraha amid the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as a member of the Lok Sabha on Friday, a day after a Surat Court sentenced him to two years in jail over his ‘Modi’ surname remark during the 2019 Lok Sabha election rally in Karnataka
