Opposition parties in the country on Wednesday lambasted the government for Income Tax survey in BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai. While West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed the BJP government for “running a political vendetta”, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said the by IT ‘survey’ the central government was destroying Indian Democracy and Freedom of the Press.
Mamata Banerjee termed the survey as “very unfortunate” Banerjee further said that one day there will be no media left in the country. “It is very unfortunate. BJP is running the government with a political vendetta. It’s not only affecting the freedom of the press, there will be no media left in the country. Media is already controlled by them. I am sorry to say the media cannot raise their voice, their management will just cut their service within 24 hours. This is their controlling power,” said Banerjee.
Comparing the BJP to Hitler, the Chief Minister said BJP’s only mandate is a dictatorship, (they are) more than Hitler.
“I am abided by the mandate of the people. Where is their (BJP) mandate? They don’t care about the people’s mandate. BJP’s only mandate is a dictatorship, (they are) more than Hitler. My sympathy and my support with media and BBC,” she said.
She further alleged that BJP wants to capture the

­judiciary also adding that the judiciary must be neutral as only the judiciary can save this country.
“Sometimes they have said against the judiciary also and they want to capture the judiciary also. But we want judiciary must be neutral…only judiciary can save this country,” she added.
The income tax (I-T) department on Wednesday continued its survey at the offices of the BBC in Delhi and Mumbai for the second day, sources say.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin tweeted: “Those misusing the people’s mandate and are responsible for destroying Indian Democracy and Freedom of Press should remember that the people of this country are silently watching you and will give a fitting lesson in the impending elections.”
He further alleged that the BJP regime at the Centre has destroyed institutions such as the CBI, ED, and IT department and they are their lasted tools used to target political opponents. Their recent addition to the list is the Income Tax ‘survey’ on BBC.
In another tweet MK Stalin lashed out at the BJP-led Union Government and said, “Transparent and independent institutions are vital for any vibrant democracy. However, under the present BJP-led Union Government, the prestigious institutions of this country have become arbitrary and completely lost independence.”
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has lashed out at the BJP-led central government.
He said: “Whoever speaks against the central government will be crushed. If the Congress party raises its voice, action is taken against them.
If the regional parties raise their voice, action is taken against them. We went to Assam for the election campaign, went to Uttar Pradesh, whenever Congress went to other states to campaign, IT, ED and DRI raids were conducted in Chhattisgarh.”
