Nirav Modi’s Attempt To Challenge His Extradition To UK Supreme Court Fails

Nirav Modi’s appeal against extradition to India was rejected by the UK supreme court on Thursday. A diamond magnate fled to the UK in a money laundering case of the amount ₹14,000 crores in Punjab National Bank (PNB) in 2018.

Judge Jeremy Stuart-Smith said, “The applicant’s request for permission to appeal to the Supreme Court is denied. Moreover, Nirav’s application for certification of a point of law has been refused as well.” This only explains that Nirav Modi has lost his options in the UK courts.

It doesn’t end here, the court has ordered him to pay the respondent’s costs of £150,247.

Nirav Modi has claimed that there is a high risk of suicide if he is extradited to India. In response to his statement, Judge said, the risk may be high, but the arrangements at the prison will enable the authorities to cope properly with Mr. Modi’s condition.
