For Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi receives Piggy Bank

The grand old party and its leaders are sharing films and images of their meetings with people every day as the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra moves approaches Kashmir after beginning in the country’s southernmost regions in September. Rahul Gandhi mentioned obtaining a piggy bank as a donation for the mass contact campaign in one of the videos he posted on Sunday.

However, it should be noted that the grand old party had previously criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a young girl’s appearance in a video during the BJP’s Gujarat campaign. Days later, the video was shared.

The party leader can be seen thanking the kids in the video Rahul Gandhi posted on Twitter on Sunday. In the video, a young boy can be heard saying that ever since the Congress began its mass contact program, he has been soliciting donations.

“I told Rahul Gandhi if he feels the need, he can use the money from the piggy bank for it,” he is heard saying in the clip.

“From what I understand about the Yatra, it aims to eliminate the animosity between communities. Bharat Jodo means all communities are the same,” he adds in the clip

The Congress leader – in his tweet (roughly translated from Hindi) – wrote: “The virtues of sacrifice and selflessness come with values learnt during childhood. This piggy bank is precious for me. It is a treasure trove of love.”

The Congress had criticised PM Modi last week for the video in which a young girl could be seen standing by his side and thanking the Gujarati government. Jairam Ramesh of the grand old party tweeted that it was “clearly a breach of the law” and asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to look into it.

Prior to now, the BJP had complained to the NCPCR, accusing Congress and Rahul Gandhi of employing kids for their “Bharat Jodo Yatra,” but the grand old party had refuted the allegations.
