A senior police officer on Thursday said that in its first polygraph test in Mizoram, experts from Delhi will visit Aizwal to conduct the test on the parents of the two-year-old girl who died due to suspected sexual assault in Aizwal district on September 16.

A polygraph test will be conducted against the couple in connection with the death of the infant, who was suspected to have been sexually abused,” Aizawl Superintendent of Police (SP) C. Lalruaia told reporters.

Three experts from a forensic laboratory in Delhi will come to Aizawl to conduct the tests in December, he said.

According to the police, the Aizawl district court has also approved a request to carry out the lie-detector test, which was requested after the couple provided their assent.

According to a previous police statement, the infant passed away on September 16 from acute Loryngotracheobrontis (ALTB) with severe respiratory distress. As the infant’s body was being prepared to be delivered to her family, some unusual signs were noticed at her private areas, which may have been caused by a sexual assault.

On September 20, Aizawl police filed a suo-moto case under the POCSO Act and began a thorough investigation. During this time, many people, including the girl’s grandparents, other family members, and local leaders, were interrogated.

In early October of this year, the girl’s mother and father, who seemed to be the main suspects in the case, were both detained and booked under sections 6 of the POCSO Act and 376AB of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). They were recently, nonetheless, released on bond.
