The country’s renowned Supreme Court advocate, Vipul Maheshwari, and veteran journalist, Anil Maheshwari, celebrated the success of their books titled “The Power of the Ballot: Travail and Triumph in the Elections” and “Ramayana Revisited: An Epic through a Legal Prism” at the Indian International Center in New Delhi. The evening began with author Anil Maheshwari telling a fascinating narrative about the inception of the book “Ramayana Revisted.” Furthermore, he revealed that Bibek Debroy and Athar Farooqui inspired him to write another book after his last one was published in 2003, following a 15-year gap. At the end of his speech, he expressed appreciation for co-author Vipul Maheshwari, who assisted him in writing the book, and thanked Shri Abhishek Manu Singhvi for penning the prologue.
The author also said, “I am extremely elated that both the books have been warmly received by everyone. In spite of their hectic schedules, I am very grateful that all of our esteemed guests were able to join us today to celebrate and share their opinions.”
Shri. Sanjeev Balyan, Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries, Government of India, said, “I congratulate both the writers for the success of their books. Looking at things from a different point of view should always be welcomed.” At the event, Justice A.K. Patnaik, a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, praised the books and stated, “What strikes me as most remarkable is the thoroughness with which both authors have explained their usage of and commentary on various parts of the text.”
Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Member of Parliament for Rajya Sabha, also shared his thoughts on the books and said, “I appreciate both writers for going back to their roots. I believe in the importance of gray areas in life for creativity to flourish. The second book talks about the difference between rule and reality in the real world, which is very important to understand.”
Vivek Tankha, Member of Parliament for Rajya Sabha, added, “Looking at the Ramayan as the backdrop of the Indian Penal Code sounds unconventional, but I always believe in freedom of thought process.”
The keynote speaker at the event, author, and motivational speaker Shiv Khera, took to the stage and made the evening joyful with his witty comments. He noted that “writers have tried to convey through anecdotes that it’s a wake-up call to strengthen the power of the ballot.”
Lastly, Vipul Maheshwari gave a vote of thanks and commented, “It is an indescribably great feeling that our books have garnered so many praises. I would like to thank all the respective judges, my colleagues at the bar, my colleagues in politics, and my friends. I really appreciate it, and I thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to be here with us at this event and celebrate the success of our books while making this evening memorable. I feel that without your support, guidance, and blessing, I could not have completed this task of writing these books. Your presence has indeed infused life into the occasion—to celebrate the success of the two books. When I started the first book, I was clueless. My co-author helped me explore my writing skills. And I enjoyed this intrusion into my otherwise hectic life as a lawyer. I request that all my well-wishers keep supporting me in my future endeavours. I would also like to thank my publisher and my team for organizing this event and making it a success. I am overwhelmed by the praises heaped on me by Mr. Tankha, Dr. Singhvi, Shiv Khera, and my dear friend Sanjeev Balyan.”
