Amazon confirms layoffs, 10,000 employees impacted

Due to an uncertain macroeconomic environment, Amazon has started the process of mass layoffs across the company in the United States this week.

Writing a memo to the worker’s hardware chief Dave Limp wrote, “After a deep set of reviews, we recently decided to consolidate some teams and programs. One of the consequences of these decisions is that some roles will no longer be required.”

“It pains me to have to deliver this news as we know we will lose talented Amazonians from the Devices & Services org as a result,” Limp said on Wednesday.

According to the New York Times, in corporate and technology roles Amazon will lay off approx 10,000 employees. In the history of the company, the cut will prominent.

Meanwhile, as a part of the annual operating planning review process Amazon’s spokesperson Kelly Nantel said there will be roles that will no longer be required.

“As part of our annual operating planning review process, we always look at each of our businesses and what we believe we should change. As we’ve gone through this, given the current macroeconomic environment, some teams are making adjustments, which in some cases means certain roles are no longer necessary. We don’t take these decisions lightly, and we are working to support any employees who may be affected,” Nantel said on Wednesday.

Moreover, the divisions which will be affected are the devices organization, retail organization, and human resources.

However, two months before managers started to inform their employees and asked them to find a new job inside the company or accept severance.

Furthermore, tech giants Meta and Twitter have also announced layoffs there employees on a large scale.
