13 die as severe rains hit northern India

At least 13 people died in several incidents due to rain across the regions of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the second consecutive day, officials said on Monday.

Schools in several districts in Uttar Pradesh are set to be closed due to constant heavy showers.

Meanwhile, a fresh round of snowfall in the higher elevations of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh caused the temperature in the entire northern area to significantly drop on Monday. According to a statement from the India Metrological Department, the northwestern Himalayas will experience moderate to heavy rainfall until October 14.

Schools were closed in a number of locations in Uttar Pradesh where 12 people have perished, including Lucknow, Aligarh, Meerut, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and Ghaziabad.

According to Uttar Pradesh’s relief commissioner’s office, more than 650 villages in 16 districts have been affected by the floods, impacting the lives of around 580,000 people.

A 55-year-old man has died in Uttarakhand’s Almora district after debris from a landslide caused by rain fell on his home. As a result of the recent heavy rain, roads have been obstructed and water levels have risen in numerous areas of the state, particularly in the Kumaon region.
