Everyone here enjoyed the game of Judo and appreciated Avtar Singh, a tall young man from Gurdaspur. His fans liked his techniques and gave him a standing ovation after his every bout and in some cases splendid skills like choking on the ground position enthralled the spectators.
In the 36th National Games, he defeated Shubham of Uttarakhand in the 100 kg category through brilliant locking technique. Avtar Singh is an Olympian and took part in Tokyo last year. Singh said that this time he was looking for a good comeback. He has worked hard for it and his aim was to make his mark in the next competitions. He said he had to improve his performance so that he can become more confident in the international arena and he was ready for a tough challenge to get medals for the country.
Avtar Singh is from Gurdaspur in Punjab and working as a sub Inspector in Punjab Police. Also to shine in his skills he practices at the Madhya Pradesh Academy. He said, “I am going to this academy, to improve my game. My department also supports me a lot, where I am working for the last 11 years.”
In response to another question, Avtar Singh said that during off-season training, he works in all those areas like stamina, technique, etc., where he is not as competitive as international standard. He expressed satisfaction over the postponement of the Asian Games by a year. He said that he definitely wants to end the long desertion of medals in this game. He will try and prepare a roadmap for that along with his coaches. He said that when he does not have a tough competition at the national level, he feels worried because of lack of competition. He said that he is not satisfied with this performance so far because the competition was not too much toughfor him and he could increase his level in national competitions. Finally he congratulated all the players and wished him best of luck to improve their game.
