Ukraine’s Kyiv hit by several explosions: Mayor

The mayor of Kyiv reported that many explosions erupted in the city’s centre on Monday morning. Buildings could be seen emitting a cloud of black smoke, according to Reuters report.

“Several explosions in the Shevchenskivskyi district – in the centre of the capital,” Vitali Klitschko said. “Details later.”

The explosions took place around 0815 local time after months of relative calm in Kyiv and air raid sirens sounded in the Ukrainian capital more than an hour before the blasts, AFP reported.

There were no reports of casualties right away.

“The blast a day earlier on the bridge over the Kerch Strait was “an act of terrorism aimed at destroying critically important civilian infrastructure”, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday said.

For Moscow’s military in southern Ukraine, the Kerch Strait serves as a crucial supply route.

This was devised, carried out and ordered by the Ukrainian special services,” Putin said.

Ukraine said that it is not responsible for the blast.
