Union Jack flag half-mast at British High Commission, following the demise of UK Queen

Following the demise of Queen Elizabeth II the British High Commission in New Delhi half-mast the Union Jack flag on Friday.

Taking to Twitter British High Commissioner to Alex Ellis said, “Her Majesty lived a life of service, of constancy which inspired and continues to inspire deep respect and affection. On this sad day, I remember what She gave to my country and to so many people around the world.”

Earlier on Thursday Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 at Balmoral castle.

In a statement, the palace said, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

After the death of Queen Charles III on Friday will officially become the King. On Saturday the US lawmakers are expected to swear an oath of loyalty to King Charles III.

Meanwhile, several world leaders expressed grief over the passing away of the Queen including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and US President Joe Biden.

“I will never forget her warmth and kindness. During one of the meetings, she showed me the handkerchief Mahatma Gandhi gifted her at her wedding. I will always cherish that gesture,” PM Modi tweeted.

Moreover, on Friday US President Joe Biden mourned the death of the longest-serving monarch of the UK and said, “Today, the thoughts and prayers of people all across the United States are with the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in their grief. We send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family, who are not only mourning their Queen, but their dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.”

However, the 47th edition of the Toronto Film Festival has been also halted on Thursday to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
