Congress MP Jairam Ramesh hit back at Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday, whose remark that Rahul Gandhi should go to Pakistan in relation to the Bharat Jodo has triggered a verbal exchange between the two parties.

Before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the Congress is attempting to expand its national presence with “Bharat Jodo,” which means “unite India.”

Himanta Sarma said on Wednesday that the party’s mass contact campaign was “the comedy of the century” and that ” the only time India was divided was in 1947 because Congress consented to it.”

The BJP leader tweeted, “Rahul Gandhi ji should go to Pakistan for Bharat Jodo Yatra if they desire unification.”

On Wednesday, Jairam Ramesh called the statement “outrageous” and claimed that Sarma was forced to make similar remarks every day to “show his commitment” because he had previously been a member of the Congress.

On Thursday, when asked for a comment, he once more unleashed a new attack. “I don’t want to squander my time refuting the claims made by the opposition.”

There will always be those who will challenge everything you do in India—professional critics, armchair critics, and others—quotes a top Congress official.

Jairam Ramesh further said that the party is “focused like Arjun was focused on the fish when he went for Draupadi’s swayamvar”. “We have only one single vision right now—to ensure the successful completion of the campaign,” he added.

Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajastan, was one of the other Congressmen who attacked Himanta. “They spoke about a country without a Congress, but now that they are upset, they are talking about Pakistan and the Yatra.”

Gehlot was cited as saying, “They should govern and consider unemployment and inflation.”

The 3,700 km foot march by the Congress will travel through 12 states and 2 union territories.
