Maruti Suzuki has announced that its first electric vehicle (EV) will be available for purchase sometime in 2025. The model will go into production between 2024 and 2025, and it will be made at the company’s factory in Gujarat. The Indo-Japanese manufacturer intends to increase the size of its manufacturing facilities in the future. It would invest Rs 11,000 crore in the first phase to set up two new manufacturing facilities at IMT Kharkhoda in Sonipat, Haryana. The first unit will be built in 2025, but the second one won’t be ready until 2026.

Details on the company’s first EV have not yet been made public. However, it has been revealed that the first Maruti electric vehicle will cost more than Rs 10 lakh due to the high cost of EV technology and batteries. According to Maruti Suzuki, the new EV has undergone sufficient testing to be able to adapt to Indian weather conditions and market-specific requirements.

Speculations of Suzuki and Toyota’s collaboration to produce a mid-size SUV as the first electric vehicle from Maruti have surfaced. The car might make its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in concept form. The electric vehicle (EV) will be built on Toyota’s substantially localised DNGA modular platform. It might be offered with 48 kWh and 59 kWh battery choices. The latter promises a range of 500 kilometres, compared to the former’s 400 km.

The Grand Vitara electric version, which is scheduled to go on sale in September 2022, is said to be the first Maruti electric vehicle. The first Maruti Suzuki model to feature a potent hybrid powertrain will be the SUV. Both the 1.5L K15C Dualjet and 1.5L TNGA petrol engines with Intelligent Hybrid technology will be available for it. Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha are the four trim levels that make up the Maruti Grand Vitara SUV model lineup. It is anticipated to cost between Rs. 9.50 lakh and Rs. 15.50 lakh (all ex-showroom).

In the price pool of Mercedes-Benz’s 2.45 crores (AMG EQS) and Volvo’s 55.90 lakhs (Volvo XC40 Recharge), Maruti’s EV is announced to be around 10 lakhs.
