Easy Win for Vinesh And Sarita Mann, Pooja Suffers An Unfortunate Defeat

Vinesh Phogat and Sarita Mann, who took home medals at the World Championships, won their trial matches and were both selected to compete in the World Championships to be held on 10 September in Belgrade, Serbia. Pooja Dhanda, who won a medal at the 2018 World Championships, suffered an unfortunate defeat.

Recently, Asian Games champion Vinesh Phogat and Antim Panghal’s wrestling became the center of attraction in the Commonwealth Games trials. Although Vinesh was trailing 0-3 at a moment, but she won that match using her experience. And after winning the Commonwealth Games gold, she entered the World Championships trials to compete with Panghal who had won the World Under 20 Championships gold medal recently. But this time she proved that experience matters by winning 7-0.

By the way in 2019, Vinesh won the Tokyo Olympics ticket by winning the bronze medal in Astana, Kazakhstan. While, Sarita Mor, who has won the Asian Championships gold twice, defeated Lalita 6-1 to find a place in the Indian contingent.

Sarita is currently the world’s number one wrestler in the 59 kg category and plays brilliantly. She won the bronze medal at the last World Championships held in Norway. A major upset took place in the 59 kg category when 2017 World Championships medalist Pooja Dhanda was knocked out 0-2 by Mansi Ahlawat. Mansi got one point by passiveness and one by taking Pooja out of the zone.

While, Sonam Malik, who participated in Tokyo Olympics, managed to beat Manisha 2-1 in the 62 kg category. Manisha lost the crucial point in her attempt to attack the zone just before the last 40 seconds of the match.

Sonam won the silver medal in the World Under 20 Championships recently. And Sakshi Malik, who won gold in the Commonwealth Games recently, could not participate due to injury. Sushma, who won bronze in the Asian Championships, defeated Pinky in a tough fight in 55 kg category.
