Shiv Sena Pune unit chief among 6 held for attack on Uday Samant’s car

Shiv Sena MLA Uday Samant, a supporter of state Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, was attacked on Tuesday night. Around 9 o’clock in the Katraj area, a group of unidentified people targeted Samant’s car at a signal.

“I was stopped at the traffic signal at Katra. I was followed by two-three vehicles. The people came out and attacked me. The attackers were carrying sticks and stones,” said Samant.

Meanwhile, police have arrested five people in this connection. The president of the Pune city unit of Shiv Sena is also among the alleged accused arrested.

Talking about the incident Maharashtra’s CM Eknath Shinde said, “This is not a courageous act. Those behind this will be punished,” Shinde said.

Moreover, a video is going viral on social media in which the mob is seen trying to surround Samant’s vehicle. The incident was carried out when Samant had come to Pune to attend CM Shinde’s programs.

A close aide of Uday Samant had said that a window of the car in which former minister Uday Samant was traveling was destroyed in the incident. Moreover, on the same day on Tuesday and around the same time, a public meeting of Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray was held in the surrounding area. However, Samant had said that the attack on his car was done in a pre-planned manner.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Sushma Chavan said that Shiv Sena’s city unit president Sanjay More was among the five people arrested for attacking MLA Uday Samant’s car. More than 15 people have been booked under various sections of the IPC.

Furthermore, the police have registered the case and investigating the matter.
