INFIGHTING IN THE PARTY WOULD NOT BE TOLERATED: MAMATA BANERJEE TELLS TMC LEADERS

On Wednesday, the Trinamool Supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was re-elected as the TMC chairperoson.

Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday acknowledged the infighting that is rampant in her party. Addressing the party leaders and workers, he said, “We have to promise, there will be no conflict between each other.”

Mamata gave a fiery speech in a bid to boost the morale of the party workers. “You have to promise me. No one will fight with each other in any way,” she kept asking, while reiterating that the infighting “would not be tolerated.”

This time, the TMC’s inner turmoil is not among the lower floor workers, but it has engulfed the leaders in the front row. The recent feud between Kalyan Banerjee and Kunal Ghosh can still be heard from time to time in the mouths of the opposition. The situation was such that party Secretary General Partha Chatterjee was forced to intervene. Madan Mitra, MLA of Kamarhati and one of Mamata’s favorite, also recently raised questions about the party’s disciplinary committee a few days ago. Meanwhile, political analysts believe that the message from Mamata Banerjee’s Netaji Indoor is significant enough.

“The party has to fight hard to win all the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the next polls in Bengal. We have to take along everybody,” said Mamata Banerjee after after being re-elected, as quoted by The Times of India. The party has held held its organisational elections after a gap of five years. She also said Trinamool Congress (TMC) will not contest the Uttar Pradesh elections but will field candidates in the state in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Mamata Banerjee, who was re-elected as TMC chairperson at a party event on Wednesday, said Trinamool Congress will support Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav in the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh. “In Uttar Pradesh, I am not going to contest Assembly polls but I am going to support Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on February 8. We (TMC) will contest from Uttar Pardesh in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls,” she said, reflecting her national ambitions in the next general elections.

Mamata Banerjee urged party workers to strengthen the party unit and said the goal is to win all 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state in the next polls.

“I have built my unit in Goa. In Tripura, our vote percentage is over 20 per cent. We have to make Bengal stronger in the next two years so that we get all 42 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. We have to chase BJP away,” she said.

Mamata Banerjee emphasised unity in the party. “I will do my first working Committee meeting in Delhi,” she said.
