India is so far the thirdworst hit Covid-19 nation in the world. Country-wise, the United States remains the most affected and then comes Brazil. The US has recorded 3,479,483 coronavirus cases which includes 138,247 deaths, while Brazil has 1,887,959 cases and has so far recorded 72,921 deaths, while India has so far recorded 9,06,752 cases, which includes 23,727 deaths.
The country registered 28,498 cases and 553 deaths due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The Health Ministry assured that there has been decline in daily growth rate of new Covid-19 cases and the total recovered cases are about 1.8 times the number of active cases, while the recovery rate among Covid-19 patients has increased to 63.02%. As the number of coronavirus cases crossed the 9-lakh mark, the Health Ministry said that 86% of the total active cases were recorded in 10 states of the country, with Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu contributing for more than 50% of them. Maharashtra reported 6,741 new Covid-19 positive cases with 4,500 cases of discharge and 213 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of positive cases in the state rose to 2,67,665, including 1,49,007 recovered cases, 10,695 deaths were recorded so far in the state with 1,07,665 active cases. State capital Mumbai reported 954 new coronavirus infections, taking the tally to 95,100. With 70 deaths reported in last 24 hours, the death toll in the city now stands at 5,405.
Tamil Nadu remained the second worst state in the country with 4,526 people tested positive for Covid-19 which includes 67 deaths in the state in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 1,47,324 including 97,310 recoveries. The total number of deaths due to coronavirus stands at 2,099. Total 41,357 samples were tested for the disease till now in the state. Meanwhile, Kerala reported its highest single day spike of 608 new Covid-19 cases, and 151 recoveries. One casualty was reported in the state.
Delhi recorded 1,606 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the city to over 1.15 lakh while the death toll from the disease climbed to 3,446. Thirty-five fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours. There was some respite in the national capital as for the fourth consecutive day, fresh cases have been reported in the range of 1,000-2,000. The number of active cases stood at 18,664, down from 19,017 the previous day. The total number of cases has mounted to 1,15,346.
Haryana reported its highest singleday spike of 699 cases and four deaths due to Covid-19, taking the infection tally to 22,628. While two patients died due to coronavirus from the worst-hit Gurugram, one patient each died in Rewari and Palwal. Gurugram now has 109 of the 312 fatalities in Haryana and 7,126 of the total cases. The active case count in the state now stands at 5,226, while 17,090 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the infection. The state’s coronavirus recovery rate now stands at 75.53 per cent.
Gujarat, too, reported its highest single-day spike with 915 new coronavirus cases in the last twenty-four hours, taking the tally to 43,723, while 14 more patients succumbed to the infection. The state reported the death of 14 more Covid-19 patients, raising the toll to 2,071. With the recovery of 749 patients in the last 24 hours, the number of discharged persons rose to 30,555.
West Bengal recorded 1,390 new Covid-19 cases, while 718 patients got discharge and 24 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. The total number of positive cases in the state rose to 32,838, including 19,931 cases of discharge and 980 deaths. The West Bengal Health Department has extended the total lockdown in containment zones to 19Julyacross the state.
India’s most populous state Uttar Pradesh recorded 1,594 new cases with 28 more Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the toll to 983 and total coronavirus count rose to 39,724 in the state. The total number of active cases stands at 13,760. Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 1,302, out of which 345 cases are active.
