In a shocking incident in Pydhonie, an 80-year-old resident, identified as Jamnadas Maganlal Mehta, was arrested for slitting the throat of his 72-year-old brother, Arvind Maganlal Mehta, during a property dispute. The incident unfolded late at night on Sunday in their shared flat on Samuel Street.
The motive behind the gruesome act stemmed from a longstanding property disagreement between the two brothers. Jamnadas, who is unmarried, was determined to sell the flat, while Arvind, residing with his 60-year-old wife Kalpana, vehemently opposed the idea.
Despite the ongoing dispute, tensions escalated recently when Jamnadas found a potential buyer for the property and insisted on the sale. On Sunday night, taking advantage of Arvind being asleep, Jamnadas used a razor to slit his brother’s throat. Kalpana, witnessing the horrifying act, rushed Arvind to JJ Hospital, where he is currently stable but receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).
The Pydhonie police acted swiftly, registering a first information report (FIR) on Monday afternoon based on a complaint filed by Arvind’s wife. Jamnadas has been booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The elderly assailant was subsequently arrested on Monday.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Pydhonie community, highlighting the tragic consequences of unresolved familial disputes. As the legal proceedings unfold, the injured brother’s recovery remains a priority, while authorities work to ensure justice is served in this distressing case.
