Five states account for 62% of the total active coronavirus cases in India, the Health Ministry said on Thursday. These states are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. With a record spike of 83,883 cases, India’s coronavirus tally touched 38-lakh mark. This is the highest single-day jump in Covid-19 infections reported by any country since the beginning of the pandemic. The total number of infections in the country now stands at 38,53,406. The death count has risen to 67,376 with 1,043 more fatalities.

 With Maharashtra contributing the highest number of coronavirus cases the total number of positive cases have reached to 8,44,425 including 6,12,484 recoveries and 2,05,428 active cases. Meanwhile, the state recorded 18,105 new Covid-19 cases and 391 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Delhi reported its highest single-day spike in 67 days with 2,737 fresh Covid-19 cases and 19 deaths taking the total case tally to 1,82,306. Meanwhile, the state government announced that bars will reopen in Delhi from 9 September on a trial basis. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has given his assent to the Arvind Kejriwal government’s proposal to reopen bars in the national capital. Under the latest directive, hotels, restaurants and clubs in Delhi will be permitted to serve liquor from next week. The permission has been given on a trial basis from 9 to 30 September.

Tamil Nadu reported 5,892 new Covid-19 cases, 6,110 discharges and 92 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking active cases to 52,070, discharges to 3,86,173 and death toll to 7,608.

 Karnataka reported 8,865 new cases, 7,122 recoveries and 104 deaths in the last 24 hours. The state total rose to 3,70,206 including 2,68,035 recoveries and 6,054 deaths. The number of active cases stands at 96,098.

Andhra Pradesh reported 10,199 new coronavirus cases, 9,499 recoveries and 75 deaths in the last twentyfour hours, taking total cases to 4,65,730 including 3,57,829 recoveries and 4,200 deaths. The number of active cases stands at 1,03,701.

Uttar Pradesh reported 5,776 new Covid-19 cases, 4,448 recovered cases and 76 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of positive cases stands at 2,47,101 in the state including 57,598 active cases, 1,85,812 recovered cases and 3,691 deaths so far.

 Punjab reported 1,527 fresh positive cases in the last twenty-four hours. The total number of positive cases in the state is now 58,515 including 15,554 active cases, 41,271 discharged patients and 1,690 deaths.

The state of Haryana recorded 1,881 new coronavirus cases, 1,014 recoveries and 19 deaths in the last twenty-four hours, taking total cases to 70,099 including 55,889 recoveries and 740 deaths.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Himachal Pradesh has reached 6,482, out of which, 1,649 are active cases, 4,742 patients have recovered and 44 people have succumbed to the virus.

Madhya Pradesh reported 30 deaths and 1,672 new coronavirus cases in the last twenty-four hours. The total number of positive cases in the state is now 68,586 including 14,888 active cases, 52,215 recoveries and 1,483 deaths.
