59-Year-Old IITian Shares Ways To Save Oneself From Heart Attack

The 59-year-old Former Banker and IIT Kharagpur alumni who is a survivor of a heart attack Mathew Gomes recently has recently shared ways to safeguard yourself from this modern world disease called Heart Attack.

But before talking about tips, what’s notable is that Gomes went through a heart attack and has extensively studied diseases like hypertension and high cholesterol during his recovery.

Here Are the Tips Followed by Gomes To Stop the Entry of Heart Attack Again 

  1. Adopt Low-Glysemic Index Diet

In the aftermath of heart attack, Gomes began to follow Low-Glysemic Index (GI)Diet. Taking inspiration from research book written by Dr William Li (Eat to Beat Disease: The New Science of How the Body Can Heal Itself), he adopted this diet.

Under this diet, it included food items like lightly fried egg, half slice of sourdough bread, spoonful of apple cider vinegar and a portion of fruit at breakfast.

In Lunch & Dinner, he ate grilled salmon or chicken, accompanied with salad and grilled vegetables.

While sharing the tips with South China Morning Sea post, Mathew said ‘I eat a healthy mix of protein, carbohydrates and good fats, and focus on probiotics and dietary fibre to enhance gut health.’

In addition, he stopped consuming processed food and sugar.

2. Do Exercise 

After making changes in diet, Mathew Gomes included Exercise in his routine. To ensure body movement, he began after-dinner walk with his wife Rekha. In addition. he started cycling four to three times a week.

‘I started waking up at 5.30am to go cycling and built up my stamina gradually’ revealed Hong Kong resident.

In order to build strength in his core and upper body, he began strength training.

3.Effectively Managing Stress 

According to Mathew Gomes, stress can play a crucial role in the occurrence of Heart week. In order to combat stress, he started attending Yoga Classes a week and reduced time spent on social media.

Thus, effective managing his stress became played a major role in his transformation. In addition, he also avoids negative news and focuses on positive memories with his family and friends.

By following these 3 easy tips, formation of plaque in his arteries was stopped with no new accumulation. His Blood pressure and cholesterol levels came within normal range. Now, he takes minimal medication reports SCMP.
