In a devastating incident in the Chashana area of Reasi district, a family comprising a mother and her three children tragically lost their lives when their house comes under a slide and collapsed triggers by heavy rain and snowfall. The incident, which occurred around 2 am, sent shockwaves through the community.
Local residents, aided by swift response from authorities, immediately launched a rescue operation upon receiving the distress call. Despite their best efforts, the four family members lost their lives on the spot, while two others sustained injuries and were promptly rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Expressing his condolences, Dy Commissioner Visheshpal Mahajan emphasized the prompt action taken by the police and administration following the incident. He confirmed that SDM, Tehsildar, and other senior officials are overseeing thesituation and assured that initial compensation would be provided to the bereaved family.
The deceased have been identified as Phalla Akther, aged about 30 years, Nasima Akther (5 years old), Safeen Kousar (3 years old), and Samreen Kousar (2 months old). Among the injured are Kalu, aged about 60 years, and his wife, Bano Begum (58 years old), both of whom are currently receiving medical attention.
The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of Kacha house settlements during inclement weather conditions, prompting calls for increased safety measures in such areas.
Meanwhile Jugal Kishor Sharma while speaking to The Daily Guardian said, “I extend my deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the unfortunate house collapse in Chassana, Reasi. Upon learning of this tragedy, I immediately contacted the Deputy Commissioner of Reasi, urging for swift and comprehensive aid to be provided to the affected families.
It is truly distressing to witness such loss of life. I commend the administration for their tireless efforts in preventing further casualties. The timely initiation of multiple helplines by Reasi Police demonstrates our commitment to ensuring immediate assistance to those in need”
