A 38-year-old engineer reportedly jumped off the Atal Setu on Wednesday. Efforts are underway by the police, Coast Guard, and local fishermen to locate him. The engineer, identified as Karuturi Srinivas, was said to be heavily in debt.
The police revealed that Srinivas resided in Palava City, Dombivli. “He was married and had previously worked in Kuwait. In 2023, he returned to India and launched his own company with a partner, focusing on electrical contracts for residential buildings,” a police officer explained.
According to the police, Srinivas drove his Tata Nexon to the bridge, parked his vehicle, and then leaped off. “After learning about the incident, we traced his car through CCTV footage and found his Aadhaar card inside the vehicle,” the officer said.
The police contacted Srinivas’ family and took a statement from his wife, who indicated that he was struggling with debt. No suicide note has been recovered.
“Our team is actively searching for him. The search has been challenging due to large waves today, but we will continue the search tomorrow,” the officer added.
Earlier in March, a 43-year-old woman from Parel, Kinjal Kantilal Shah, also allegedly died by suicide by jumping off the Atal Setu. The police had reported that Shah, a doctor, was suffering from depression and was undergoing treatment.
