22 candidates file nominations from 02-Srinagar Constituency on last day of filing

The Office of the Returning Officer (RO) for the 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency witnessed a flurry of activity on Thursday, April 25, 2024, as twenty-two candidates filed their nomination papers on the final day of filing for the General Lok Sabha Elections-2024.
Among those who submitted their nomination papers were Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi of the Jammu Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and Salman Sagar as a covering candidate from the same party. Additionally, candidates from various political parties and independents joined the fray by submitting their nominations to contest the prestigious Srinagar Lok Sabha Seat.

The list of candidates includes Hakikat Singh from the National Panthers Party Bhim, Rakesh Handu from J&K National United Front, Amir Ahmad Bhat and Qaiser Sultan Ganai (covering candidate) from the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, and Ashiq Hussain from the Rastriya Jan Kranti Party, among others.
Independent candidates who filed their nominations include Wahida Tabasum, Dr. Qazi Ashraf, Fida Hussain Dar, Abdul Hamid Rather, Arun Kumar Raina, Bansi Lal Bhat, Saquib Rahman Makhdoomi, Shadib Hanief, Javaid Ahmad Wani, Jehangir Ahmad Sheikh, Shabir Ahmad Malik, and Sajad Ahmad Dar.

With the addition of these twenty-two nominations, the total number of candidates contesting from the 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency has reached thirty-nine. The previous seventeen candidates filed their nomination papers earlier this week on April 22, 23, and 24, 2024. The scrutiny of the nomination papers is scheduled to take place on April 26, 2024 (Friday). Candidates have the option to withdraw their candidature until April 29, 2024 (Monday) at 3:00 PM.

Voting in the 02-Srinagar constituency is slated for May 13, 2024, during the fourth phase of elections, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4, 2024.
