Forget the “Hardtop” – Mini has expanded its lineup with the introduction of the all-new, more practical 5-door Cooper, just months after debuting its 2-door sibling. Offering increased space and familiar engine options, the new model is expected to arrive soon in India, with Mini India already opening order books for other new models.
A Roomier Ride
The new 5-door Cooper builds on the 3-door hatchback’s design, boasting an extra 16 centimeters in length compared to the 3-door and 3 centimeters more than the outgoing 5-door model. This increase translates to 3.8 centimeters of additional legroom for rear passengers and a more practical 275 liters of cargo space.
Tech and Interior Upgrades
Beyond the added space, the new Mini Cooper 5-door features significant tech and interior upgrades. The redesigned cockpit includes a new OLED display positioned closer to the driver for easier access. Running on the latest MINI OS9, this display allows control of navigation, media, phone, and climate settings through touch or voice commands.
Mini enhances the user experience further with seven unique “MINI experience modes.” A projector behind the OLED display transforms the dashboard into vivid worlds of color and patterns, each with its own customized background.
Engine Options
The 5-door Cooper offers two gasoline engine choices, mirroring those of the 3-door Cooper. The base Cooper C comes with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 154 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. The more performance-oriented Cooper S features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 204 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. Both engines power the front wheels, with the 5-door Cooper S having a slightly slower 0-to-100 kilometer per hour acceleration compared to the 3-door version.
Transmission and Production
Unlike its 3-door counterpart, the new 5-door Cooper will only be available with an automatic transmission, as Mini removed the manual option from the lineup last year. Notably, the 5-door won’t have a battery-electric option, with that role filled by the Chinese-built Aceman EV in some markets.
Production for the 5-door will take place alongside the gasoline-powered versions at Mini’s Oxford plant, which is undergoing adjustments to start production of the electric Cooper and Aceman in 2026. The upcoming Mini Convertible, the last model to be revealed in the brand’s lineup refresh, will also be built at Oxford.
Looking Ahead
With its increased space, advanced technology, and familiar engine options, the new Mini Cooper 5-door is set to offer a more practical yet equally stylish alternative for Mini enthusiasts. The anticipation builds as Mini India hints at the imminent arrival of this new model.
