The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its 11th list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, revealing just one name. Vinod Kumar Bind, the current MLA from Majhawan Assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh, has been selected to contest from Bhadohi.
Previously, on April 10, the BJP had released its 10th list, naming candidates for nine Lok Sabha seats. Among these were seven seats in Uttar Pradesh, one in West Bengal, and one in Chandigarh. The candidates from Uttar Pradesh are Jaiveer Singh Thakur (Mainpuri), Vinod Sonkar (Kaushambi), Praveen Patel (Phulpur), Neeraj Tripathi (Allahabad), Neeraj Shekhar (Ballia), BP Saroj (Machhlishahr), and Paras Nath Rai (Ghazipur). SS Ahluwalia will contest from West Bengal’s Asansol Lok Sabha seat, and Sanjay Tandon is the candidate from Chandigarh.
Uttar Pradesh, with its 80 Lok Sabha seats, holds significant political weight in India. The 2024 elections are expected to see intense competition between major parties like the BJP, Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Bahujan Samaj Party.
Bhadohi Lok Sabha constituency includes five Assembly constituencies (Bhadohi, Jaunpur, Aurai, Pratappur, and Handia), with one seat reserved for Scheduled Castes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, BJP’s Ramesh Chand won the seat with a margin of 43,615 votes, defeating BSP’s Rangnath Mishra. Similarly, in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Virendra Singh of the BJP emerged victorious, defeating BSP’s Rakesh Dhar Tripathi by 158,141 votes.
