The Special Director of Enforcement Directorate (ED) was summoned by Delhi’s Karkardooma Court on Tuesday due to the prosecution’s non-appearance in a money laundering case involving Tahir Hussain, the former councillor for the Aam Aadmi Party. The 2020 North-East Delhi Riots are relevant to this case. On December 8, 2023, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Amitabh Rawat personally called the Special Director of ED.
The court declared, “The prosecution did not appear in court previously either to file a reply or to supply application, judgments, or arguments. Even though it was promised that something like this wouldn’t occur again, it has.” The court observed that the accused’s attorney had been instructed to receive a copy in advance. However, neither a reply nor an advance copy have been submitted to the court.
“In these circumstances, let Special Director (Directorate of Enforcement) appear in person on the next date on December 8 at 2.00 PM,” ASJ Rawat ordered on December 5, 2023.
The court also directed to produce accused Tahir Hussain physically from Judicial Custody on the next date.
The court passed the order while dealing with an application moved on behalf of Tahir Hussain.
He had moved an application on November 18, 2023, for which the prosecution had sought time to file a reply.
