Two armed gangsters were arrested and three of their accomplices fled after an encounter with Punjab Police in a crowded locality of Chheharta in Amritsar on Thursday. The two arrested gangsters were identified
as Ravi and Rafi.
The incident took place in the busy Narayanghar locality of Chheharta in Amritsar.
The Gangster had fired on the Amritsar Police and Amritsar police also gave cross fire. The whole congested market got shocked after watching the live encounter in front
of their eyes.
The arrested accused are already registered under 6 cases and were planning something major suspicious activity in near future. As per Police, they came to meet someone at Chheharta locality.
After receiving a tip-off, police came into action. Amritsar Police raided and chased the accused. Chheharta is a congested locality, and the criminals while taking advantage of congested locality abandoned their car and ran to escape. The police managed to get hold of two of the accused after they entered a house. Three of their accomplices managed to flee.
Commissioner of police Jaskaran Singh reached the spot. Efforts are on to arrest the rest of the three accused. The police recovered five weapons from the accused.
A senior Amritsar police official privy to the ongoing probe said, “Our investigation has so far revealed that the accused are part of a narco-terror module involved in cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons. They were trying to trace a man in the area when the incident took place. Robin is the kingpin of the racket. Besides smuggling, the accused had also been working as recovery agents, who used to threaten and thrash those who refused to pay them after buying drugs. All of them have several criminal cases registered against them. We are examining their past records.”
