The unprecedented times of pandemic, another Covid variant again knocking doors. On one hand, the Central Health Ministry asked state governments to brush up the arrangements for the possible fear, yet on the other hand, around 11 lakh people in Punjab have not got the first dose vaccine. There are about 40 thousand people who have taken the first dose but they have not taken the second dose. Simultaneously, about nine lakh people have not gotten booster doses yet.The State Health Department has directed all the health units to get genome sequencing of all the Covid samples found infected. As per official figures of the Health department till Thursday, 18,33,275 people have got booster dose in
Punjab so far.
Talking on this, Department of Anesthesia, Prof Dr Sanjeev Palta of Govt Medical College and Hospital, sector 32, Chandigarh said, one has to understand that vaccines are an imperative tool for survival. It is a virus and it does not excuse anyone with their age, cast, color or creed.
At the same time, a total of 1,07,12,836 are vaccinated in the age group of 18 to 44, while 8,74,735 adolescents in the age group of 15 to 17 have been jabbed with the second dose of Covid. Apart from this, 76,56,039 people above 45 years of age have been given the second vaccine of Corona. State Health Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra on Thursday while giving information about the preparations for Covid in the state said that the Health Department is fully prepared in view of the possible wave of Corona.
Covid dedicated hospitals have been opened in all the districts. There are 790 level two pediatric beds and 324 ICU beds in the state. A Pediatric Centre of Excellence is functioning in Amritsar. 3518 additional pediatric beds have been provided in the state especially to protect children from Covid.
